It’s always the defenders with the overzealous celebrations (que tal Pepe?). Last night, Spain defeated Turkey 2-1 in Istanbul despite the home side leading thanks to Semih ?entürk’s tap in.
Anyway, Riera’s extra-time goal saw a Spanish victory after they equalised thanks to Alonso’s daftly taken penalty. Del Bosque also made several changes to the squad. David Silva, Riera and Carlos Marchena were fielded in place of David Villa, Santi Cazorla and Raúl Albiol. And it certainly paid off as Riera scored the winner!
“The match was very complicated. They (Turkey) wanted to win after what happened at the Bernabeu and it was difficult to overcome (them). We had control of the party and continued attacking until we got a well deserved victory,” said Riera after the game.
