Yes, despite cara’s hectic schedule with the selecao late last week, Brazil’s Felipe Melo found the time to answer Futbolita’s questions. En realidad, we spent the whole day running in the airport and walking in the rain last Friday before the all-important call from Felipe’s agent came through! And it’s adorable how paranoid he was about the selecao’s stringent rule with interviews till we had to be the ones to calm him down. Relaxe homem, você é brasileiro….!
Anyway, we’ll reveal the full context of the interview for our national newspaper in due time. Here, Felipe shares some interesting insights about his life in Italy and with Brazil.
“Being a footballer appears to be a ‘glamorous’ job, but it was a lot of hard work getting here. To have achieved the dream of becoming a professional footballer and to wear the Brazil shirt – the best international squad in the world – and Juventus, one of the most important clubs in world, is already something great for me,” Melo told Futbolita proudly.
After winning the Confederations Cup with Brazil in July, Melo has shifted his focus to La Vecchia Signora and their passionate fans, following his high-profile move to the club this season. Indeed, his talent at Fiorentina captured the attention of coach Dunga, who summoned him to the selecao in February. Regular readers of Futbolita will know how much we’ve been ooing and aahing over the talented midfielder! (‘Let’s go, Meloooo!’)
“I’m trying to do my best to help Juventus win more trophies. We have had some great performances. At the beginning of this season, I had a magical debut in our 3-1 win over Roma at the Olympic Stadium, where I scored the third goal. It was a great way to start my journey in black and white!” he enthused.
“They’re starting to see the real Melo and what he can do. I want to make history at Juventus.”
And after spending his last season at Fiorentina, the defensive midfielder is already getting used to the lovely Italian lifestyle. Certainly, how could one not?
“I must say that the food (in Italy) is very nice. Spaghetti a la carbonara is my favourite Italian dish!” he declared.
Ironically, unlike the rest of his peers, Melo is quick to shy away from the media limelight. He also strikes you as a loving father and husband and he is quick to credits them for all his successes so far. Robinho, are you listening?
“I spend most of my free time with my wife and my kids whom I love a lot. They’ve walked with me step by step in this career and always supported, encouraged and helped me in my difficult times,” he said.
