LA LIGA LUNES : Of Farewells & Dance Moves

It’s always a sad moment for fans when a symbol of their club leaves. And for the people of Valencia, they bid farewell to one of their longest-serving players, Vicente, last night in a pretty discreet ‘farewell’ at the Mestalla. A few months ago, we met Vicente after a Champions League game in Valencia and he told us that “everything was OK” but wasn’t sure where he was going next season. He’ll still be remembered though – as will his hija, Blanca! (ok, they must be really big fans of ‘Blanco’… one of our favourite Spanish fashion outlets!)

We all know that Marcelo is part of the Selecao Bootcamp’s Dancing Squad (with Robinho!) Well, it looks like he has been teaching his ‘moves’ to Adebayor. Only Cariocas will be able to teach you the samba moves, and for that, Marcelo probably qualifies as the team’s dancing coach. Also, Greaseano officially equalled the Pichichi record after scoring a brace in last night’s 3-1 victory over Villarreal, so it looks like his competitive nature reaped its rewards after all…

On the subject of farewells (we really didn’t want to make this a sad post!), Atletico’s coach Sanchez Flores has announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. But he still wants to make sure that they have a decent chance to make it to the Europa League! So come on, have a little faith, rojiblancos!

“It’s my last game at the Vicente Calderon,” the coach said. “The Atletico fans have always given me their whole support. It will be hard because I will experience strong emotions. It seems as if it’s a failure to play it (the Europa League), but it’s important and players like (Fernando) Torres left the club without knowing what it was like to play in Europe.”
