So Samir Nasri has officially left Arsenal, much to the chagrin of his teammates (Frimpong, anyone?!) and fans. The signs were there, obviously, even if it initially pointed towards the other Manchester team. But if you were a footballer at your prime – 23, 24 years old – you’d want to win as many trophies as possible too. These guys live on short careers, so they’ll need to make the most of it and Nasri is just doing what any other footballer of his stature would. He has perhaps six or seven good years to make an impact on domestic and national fronts, so he better get started aussitôt!
Anyway, Samir’s still a great guy and really appreciative of the support he gets (oui oui... we met him last month). His shyness has unfortunately often been mistaken for arrogance. At least this chapter is finally closed! Now for Champions League qualification…
Our thoughts are with people who’re on holiday in Spain at the moment, but unable to watch any La Liga games because of the strike! The bad news continues as they’re planning to call off this weekend’s scheduled games as the Association of Spanish Footballers & Spanish League are unable to reach an agreement. Pay up guys, PAY UP!
“The strike will continue for the second day of the season, the problem is not solved. I understand that people want to watch football, but we must think about the players who are suffering. I would be more optimistic, but I cannot. Presently, I can only speak of a strike for the second round of matches. And it will remain in place if we cannot find agreement on all points. We made another proposal and now must see if an agreement can be reached.” – AFE director Luis Gil.
