Every Wednesday, we round up the offbeat stories in football for you! This week, read what Xabi Alonso & Diego Forlan’s women have to say and watch Hope Solo as she waltzes across the ballroom.

Nagore Aranburu, also known as Xabi Alonso‘s beautiful and intelligent wife (classy as Mrs. Maldini, it seems!) has come out to say that she doesn’t mind being branded a ‘WAG’. While the likes of Cheryl Cole thinks it’s a derogatory term (“I am my own person, not somebody’s WAG,” she once said), Nagore actually loves it. Oh, and did you know she’s also been dubbed the Basque Sara Carbonero?
“It doesn’t annoys me that I have been classified as a WAG - I am indeed one. People look a lot (to) my husband (Xabi), and therefore at me, but I love that (they) look up to him and feel much affection for him.”
One other new addition to the Uruguayan Wag Association is Victoria Saravia, a model who is now dating Inter Milan striker, Diego Forlan. The problem with doing ‘WAG’ interviews is that they tend to be extremely ‘temporary’ (no disrespect to them), barely scratching the surface or uninteresting. But this one with Victoria is fascinating! She spoke about how people have compared her to Forlan’s ex, Zaira Nara and what keeps them going.
“I think that one strong thing we have in common is that (we) both went through a dramatic family history. He (Diego), with the tragic accident of his sister Alexandra and me with the death of my father when I was 12. When Diego was involved in everything that happened with Zaira, he never went on to explain (it). He once told me: “The day you learn to live with yourself without caring about what people have to say, you will enjoy life more. And coincidentally that is what my mother told me when they killed my father at 33.”
US National Women’s Team goalkeeper, Hope Solo did a tango number on the TV Show ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ (or Dancing with the ‘Has Beens‘, if you’d like). She looked great and confident, although the Bon Jovi song is a little unfitting!
