FELIZ MARTES! The shortlist for the Women’s FIFA Ballon d’Or has been announced and surprise, surprise, three of the names drawn are from the US national team. The winners, Japan, also have two possible winners in the list, as do France. Abby Wambach (seen above with a fan), Hope Solo and Aya Miyama are a few of the key names but all these talented futbolitas are all winners in their own right. Here’s the list…
Sonia Bompastor (France), Kerstin Garefrekes (Germany), Marta (Brazil), Aya Miyama (Japan), Alex Morgan (USA), Louisa Necib (France), Homare Sawa (Japan), Lotta Schelin (Sweden), Hope Solo (USA), Abby Wambach (USA).
And here’s Marta with Brazil president, Dilma Roussef at the presidential palace earlier this year. Marta won the FIFA Awards 5 times in a row simply because she’s out of this planet (sort of like the Messi of Women’s football, and you’d better believe it). We think the award will probably go to Abby Wambach next year because she’s been really phenomenal. But there’s also Japan’s Aya Miyama. Hmm..
