Weekend Wrap : The Madrid “Bath Robe” Derby, Arsenal Ladies’ Japan Tour & Liverpool-City

We all know that Real Madrid have a history of respected Portuguese legends within their ranks, but none of them dared to wear a Bath Robe onto the pitch like Atletico’s Paulo Futre (above) did in the 80′s! You can only imagine the look on Alfredo di Stefano’s face if Fabio Coentrao were to try something like this in after the match today. “¿qué es esto… despreciable!”

Anyway, get excited hombres... the Madrid derby take place tonight! It’s a great city to be in today and there’s overall excitement (duh). Churros and hot chocolate for a nightcap, and you’re off!

“If people think we’re going to get three or four goals and think we’re going to play like against Dinamo (Zagreb), think again. Here it is tradition or not statistics. In a derby anything can happen. The first derby I was involved in was Benfica-Sporting. I was coach of Benfica and the team did badly. We (conceded) three.” – Mourinho.

Now here’s a hilarious gesture from Arsenal Ladies’ Emma Bryne, who got her money changed prior to the team’s 11-day tour in Japan! There’s a real money shot, ah, chicas? Anyway, the Arsenal ladies have flown to Japan in a bid to raise funds for the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami relief effort. They will also take part in three matches during their stay there and it will certainly be interesting to watch, especially since Japan are the winners of the inaugural Women’s World Cup.

Manchester City are set to face Suarez y Compañeros tomorrow (Liverpool!) in what’s set to be an exciting game. They have quite a lot to prove, after Cavani’s Napoli show over the week (what a gem!) and we think they’ll be gunning for a win. But who’s to say Suavey Suarez won’t be scoring?

“We know it will be a difficult game. The Premier League is hard. We’ve played only 12 games and the season is very long. The squads that Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have now, they can battle for the title. We had a fantastic start but United are there, five points behind.” – Mancini
