Germany’s Lukas Podolski was involved in a traffic accident yesterday, which left his car in such a bad state that it needed to be towed. Poor Poldi?! Absolutely not.
The family of three sitting in the wagon he accidentally rammed into at the traffic light had to be be admitted to a hospital. Poldi was on the way to Cologne’s training ground, but he was 15 minutes early, so surely there’s no reason to speed! According to police, they suffered “mild injuries” and more crucially, perhaps, Podolski has been listed as the “person responsible for the accident”.
Poldi said: “I immediately inquired about the welfare of other road users. Fortunately, nothing much happened. “
And you’re looking at the player’s Black Mercedes which was affected in the accident yesterday. With his salary, €18 000 in damages could amount to a week’s wages (MIO DIOS!). Ironically, Podolski recently spoke up about being unhappy with his current domestic situation (cue : gremlin-like agents hiding under his bed) and admitted that he was looking for a way out.
“I was told the plan was to get back into Europe here, but we have failed and of course I have to ask myself why. Whenever I am with the national team, I always notice people shaking their heads when yet another story emerges from Cologne which has nothing to do with sport.”
“My family and friends may live here and I know every corner of the city, but if I am in top condition, then I think I could fit into any side in Europe. I am not forced to stay only in Cologne.”
