WEEKEND WRAP : CHRISTMAS EDITION

Nothing warms our heart (and stockings) more than futbolitos who are committed to charity work and give back to their communities! To be fair, every club in world football makes an attempt do this but special mention must go out to Tottenham, whose efforts are equally impressive (na na, don’t be hatin’ this Christmas!)

Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen and Per Mertesacker all headed out to spread some Christmas cheer to the children at Whittington Hospital yesterday. They handed out gifts – courtesy of Santa Persie (every other player is fighting to be Santa Claus - here’s looking at you Szczesny!) and the look on the faces of those children was just priceless. Good one, boys!

Somewhere far far away from London (but still close to the hearts of Arsenal supporters… some may believe), Cesc Fabregas presented his new boots at an El Corte Ingles store in Barcelona last night. At some point during the proceedings, Santa Claus himself asked for an autograph and Cesc obliged, looking right at home with those ninos.

He also noted that Real Madrid are “still the team to beat” – which should be music to Mourinho’s ears –  but he wants to focus on “Barca’s immediate games.”

From one Brazilian football legend to another! Here’s Ronaldo Lima consoling an emotional Romario at an event yesterday, where the Brazilian Football Federation announced a groundbreaking move that will bring a smile to many this Christmas! Brazil will be donating 32,000 tickets (500 tickets per match) to the disabled community and families from the country’s low-income group, so that they will be able to catch ‘live’ matches at the stadiums in 2014.

The total estimated worth of the tickets is said to be US$23.8 million. What else can we say… brilhante!
