Bienvenidaaaaa! We know it’s Monday and you’re probably still nursing that hangover from last Saturday but Gracias a Dios for football because Villarreal held Valencia to a 2-2 draw last night and we know the town folks are celebrating! Sure, they’re way at the bottom at 18th place on the table at the moment (which is scary) but never underestimate El Submarino Amarillo. This could be a turning point for them to make sure they finish mid-table at the end of the season… keep moving, hombres!
Elsewhere, Espanyol held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the Derby of Catalonia! Obviously, everybody expected a thrashing from Fabregas and co’, but wouldn’t that have been a tad too predictable? We all know what Barca are capable of (in fact, the world will see this for a fact at the Ballon d’Or gala awards tonight) but Espanyol are fighting hard this season. At eighth spot on the La Liga table, it’s fair to say they’re gearing towards a Europa League spot. And why not?
Barca’s Gerard Pique recently gave an interview to ‘La Vanguardia’, where he spoke about his friendship with Puyol. It provides an interesting insight into understanding the Moc Moc crew and the brotherhood/Bromance (whatever you make of it!) which has helped them on the pitch as well.
“We have always had very good chemistry and we know the ‘power of play’ very well too. Our friendship has gone beyond (the Barca jersey) – we also go for lunch and dinner and this helps us so much that sometimes with a look, we know what to do. Carles is an example for the young and old. “
