We’re now officially 30 months away from the World Cup in Brazil, which means there isn’t much time for the country to start finalizing some basic rules. When it comes to football of course, ‘basic rules’ really range from the sale of beers to deciding on how much ‘fiesta‘ (partying) is allowed in the stadiums. Seriously, what else are you German chicos going to do throughout the tournament?!
“Alcoholic drinks are part of the FIFA World Cup, so we’re going to have them. Excuse me if I sound a bit arrogant but that’s something we won’t negotiate,” Valcke (FIFA secretary)
This bill to approve drinking in stadiums is significant to the Brazilians because alcoholic drinks have been banned in Brazil’s stadiums since 2003, as part of the Supporters’ Statutes. This is aimed at preventing violence among hardcore fans at football matches. Now for the issue of dealing with drunk supporters – perhaps Borussia Dortmund could come on board as Head of Security?
