Premiership Party: Super Van Persie, Liverpool’s Quest For A Striker & The Leeds United Fisherman

It wasn’t exactly Premiership action over the weekend – but it was still a FA Cup Party out there, nonetheless! Arsenal, of course, deserve a round of applause for springing back from two goals down to make it 3-2 against Aston Villa yesterday.

Super van Persie scored a brace (natuuuuuurlijk!) and Theo Walcott slotted in the equaliser in the 57th minute. The footballers’ favourite cliché “I’ll do my talking on the pitch” (CRINGE!) couldn’t be more relevant to Walcott.

Also, here’s the story of Grandpa Wim, whom Van Persie dedicated his goal to last weekend.

Meanwhile, the transfer window closes at midnight tomorrow and it’s has been an awfully quiet one! When is Tevez going to stop watering his shed and say something intelligent like “We have decided that English football is not for me. I’m buying out my own buy-out clause to concentrate on golf.” Entertainment, folks!

Following their exciting 2-1 victory over United at the weekend, Liverpool are apparently keen on bringing a striker to the club. Dalglish has been watching the market pretty closely – after all, they want nothing less than Champions League football next season! Some names in the hat include Lucas Barrios (Dortmund), Darren Bent and Demba Ba. They’re also closely examining clubs in the Bundesliga (Nein Podolski, you’re not going anywhere!)

The name Jonny Howson may not ring a bell for many of you. But the midfielder gave some interesting insights as to why he made the crucial from Leeds United to Norwich City. Hint : It isn’t because of the Premiership football.

“It was very hard to leave Leeds. But I really love fishing, so having the Norfolk Broads so close will be very nice. I love coarse and carp fishing, and if I get a spare few days I’ll do an overnighter as well.” – Howson
