
We all know that racism in football is a topic that never ceases to end. And now, Liverpool’s Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina (claim to fame : First player to get fully wasted when Spain won the World Cup!) has been accused of being a Racist. All because he agreed to appear in an awesome ad involving a dancing African tribe for an insurance company. What’s with Liverpool players and the ‘R’ word? Puede darles de comer las empanadas?! (can you feed them pies?)
The ‘problem’ in all of this may have been at the end of the ad, when Pepe looked a little doubtful at being part of the tribe and hesitantly said the tagline : “I feel safe”. We understand that there will be people who may feel offended by this – but surely, there was no racism intended!
