Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, who was caught driving at speeds of up to 216km/hr (in an area with a speed limit of 100km/h) in Madrid on February 3rd, has requested that his trial date be postponed because of this weekend’s crucial el clasico rematch.
The Frenchman was due to testify in court on Tuesday, but there isn’t really much to argue about if you’ve already broken the speed limit! Following the incident, Benzema received a one year suspension on his driving license (a similar situation to Arsenal’s Andre Santos last year) and he also faces a possible prison sentence of between three to six months. Of course, given the fact that he’s a millionaire footballer, the Spanish court has imposed a €72,000 fine – or €400 a day for six months – instead. In addition, Benzema is also expected to carry out community service. One lesson in life : Unless you’re playing in the Bundesliga, you can’t get away with speeding!

Meanwhile, Benzema’s teammate Sergio Ramos and his current squeeze, Pilar Rubio, hung out with Niña Pastori, one of the best contemporary flamenco singers in Madrid yesterday.
The defender appeared on a talk show last week and when asked about his personal life, he admitted : “Very good. Phenomenal. I’m enjoying myself – not only professionally, but I’m also going through a great moment in my personal life and the truth is that I like to share it.”
The 26-year-old also confessed that he loves children and that he is loco about his niece. “Being a parent is an experience that I have not (gone through) yet but I have my niece, Daniela, who is very close to me!”
Anyway, if you haven’t heard of Nina Pastori, here’s “Capricho de Mujer“, one of our favourite songs by her!
