It was a relatively “aburrido” (boring) day for Real Madrid’s Marcelo and Luka Modric, who were part of the Real Madrid team that took part in a press conference especially about the World Cup draw.
Examining their facial expressions above, they were tired of the Brazil/Croatia opening game questions. Come on guys it’s only been two days – you have more than six months to stare at the names in Group A!
“People) have the right to say what they want but I would never underestimate Croatia because we always play well in major competitions. ‘It’s a special time for us, it’s the opening game of the World Cup. Hopefully we can give them a tough time. We want to show (people) are wrong (to dismiss us).” – Modric
Despite playing to a disappointing 0-0 draw against third division side Olimpic de Xativa in the Copa del Rey Round of 32 yesterday, Benzema, Angel di Maria, Iker Casillas, Ronaldo, Marcelo and Modric all turned up at the conference holding up shirts of their national kits. Benzema’s boredom could be excused, but at least country captains Ronaldo and Casillas’s excitement was visible.
Anyway, Ronaldo admitted that Group G – one of the aforementioned ‘Groups of Death’- would be tough to navigate through, but his confidence as always, is very nice to see.
“It’s a very difficult group. Germany is always a candidate to win it, Ghana and the United States are great teams, so it’s difficult. But from my point of view, we can get through. It depends on how confident the team is. The team’s training camp will be very important,” he said.
Meanwhile, Casillas – who cracked a joke with Ronaldo at the conference – said : “Sometimes it is hard to understand very well the way draw is done. I do not agree with the format. But when all is said and done we are not the ones who decide which teams are better than others.”
