The masterclass act that is Andrea Pirlo has picked up the 2012-13 Player of the Year award, as voted by his very own Serie A colleagues. Italians are passionate about their friendships as much as their calcio, so for Mr. Popular Pirlo, receiving this award makes a lot more sense than… uh, Balotelli!
“It’s very important to receive the award because the ones that vote are my colleagues (the Italian Players’ Association (AIC),” said the 34-year-old Pirlo. “This is the best.”
Andrea Pirlo’s personal life has also been scrutinized extensively, after it was announced that after twelve years of marriage, he would be divorcing his wife Deborah Roversi. The woman in the centre of the storm is Valentina Baldini, a 35-year-old real estate agent who is said to be the ‘third party’ and the reason for the couple’s separation.
The Juventus midfielder has engaged the services of a well-known lawyer, who has dealt with the divorce cases of goalkeeper Gigi Buffon and Italian actor Raoul Bova.
Andrea definitely deserves this Serie A award (and a place in the World Cup squad – “duh”) but for now, there are more pressing matters to take care of!
