Serie A : Juventus’s Conte Slams Players For Throwing Away Lead Against Verona

If there’s one man who knows about the dangers of complacency in football, it’s Juventus coach Antonio Conte, who slammed his players yesterday for conceding two goals where they had previously been leading 2-0. In his own words, it was a ‘shower of humility’ for his boys.

Juventus played Hellas Verona yesterday, and after a spirited first-half performance, appeared to throw away the lead from pure carelessness. Even Verona’s coach Andrea Mandorlini (above) couldn’t believe his eyes when they scored in the 95th minute!

Anyway, Conte doesn’t really care about Juventus’s nine-point lead at the top of the Serie A table – to him it was a terrible performance regardless. That’s called thinking like a real coach!

“I’m very unhappy that we conceded two goals against a team that created little. We go 2-0 ahead, then concede a goal and start panicking. There’s no explanation. I’m very unhappy that we lost these points because of a very serious lack of attention. This result should make us take a shower of humility, something which perhaps we needed.” – Antonio Conte, Juventus coach.

Meanwhile, Lazio were held 0-0 by second-placed AS Roma in the Rome derby, which saw its traditional fanfare on the stands. The fans’ performance and choreography itself are often worth a gander, as are the light flares and rabid movements from the intimidating Curva Sud!

Interestingly, no player has scored more league goals in the Rome derby than Totti, but the 37-year-old was unable to find a 10th goal in the game. Well, one thing’s for sure – he’d be capable of annoying Conte to no ends if he did find the net!
