The Round-of-16 midweek action in the UEFA Women’s Champions League kicked off this week, where the French derby between Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain took place.
This time it was PSG that triumphed, with their tense 1-0 win in Lyon achieved thanks to a close-range finish from the legendary Fatmire Alushi ten minutes from full time. This led to a 2-1 aggregate triumph over the two-time European queens.

Perth Glory claimed the W-League Premiership for the first time after locking down top spot on the ladder with two rounds remaining.
The Glory girls celebrated in style by easing to a 5-0 win over the visiting Western Sydney Wanderers, and will now aim for their maiden championship in next month’s finals series.
“We have always produced some quality players, but we have never been able to put everything together,” said Glory coach Jamie Harnwell. “We have a good mix of experience and youth, and a good mix of WA players plus some from interstate and overseas. The whole group has gelled really well and to have only lost one game so far is an incredible achievement. It is huge (for women’s football in the west).
“I told the players they needed to prove they are best team in the league. Now in the finals we have to prove we are the best team on the day. We have to be confident going into a home final, but it is still a one-off game.”
