We’re loving the new photos from the event revealing La Liga’s new ambassadors last week!
To kick off 2018 on a high note, legends of the game such as Diego Forlan (remember him?!), Steve McManaman, and Robert Pires have all joined the star-studded lineup of LaLiga Ambassadors. It’s a 19-man (and 1 woman, yes!) contingent of ex-LaLiga players, who work together to boost the image of the league to the world, while keeping fans engaged.
The trio joins the former Real Madrid striker alongside the likes of LaLiga Legends Frederic Kanoute, Gaizka Mendieta, Carles Puyol, David Villa and Xavi Hernandez in this programme.
Former-RCD Espanyol and current Paris Saint-Germain Féminines forward Veronica Boquete is also a part of #laligasquad. Boquete is the first Spaniard to have been nominated for the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, equivalent to the Ballon d’Or in 2014. In 2015, she captained La Roja at its first ever appearance at a Women’s World Cup. GET IT GIRL!!!
Boquete recently retired from the Spanish national team leaving behind a legacy – she is Spain’s all-time top goal scorer with 38 goals to her name. Boquete joined the LaLiga Ambassadors programme in 2016, with the intention to aid the growth and change the perception of women’s football in the region and all around the world.
