Oolala, here we go again… another controversy that involves CaveMan Dona here and the Argentinean national team! If he could produce and star in his own soap opera, top TV networks from all over the world would pay big bucks to see it. They could even get Carlito Tevez to do one of his favourite cambia songs. Una receta para el éxito!

Anyway, Alfio Basile’s son is accusing The Dona of holding conspiracy theories and plotting against his father (who was the previous coach) to become coach of Argentina. “I know everyone in the world of football, but few dare to say it. Maradona did a lot to be on the team,” said Basile’s son on Monday.

The Dona is disappointed : “I know Alfito and I can understand that he’s saying these things because he is hurt that his father lost a place, a place for all who love football in Argentina (which is) very important,” said Maradona. “But I cannot accept what he says – no way. I am disappointed, I am saddened. And it hurts me.”

Don’t you love it when futbolitos do that to the camera? We do! And Nicolas Gaitan has every reason to celebrate after scoring a brace in Boca’s 2-1 triumph over Tigre yesterday. Alfio Basile’s men have been fighting hard this season so we should stop calling him Ursula. Maybe he ought to pay Leonardo a visit… they can both enjoy celebratory drinks courtesy of Potter Perez.

Anyway, Los Xeneizes needed a win this week to take them through to the next game. After all, they will be meeting old foes River Plate next weekend. Well, they’re both nowhere at the top of the table, but everyone knows the rivalry is still fierce. Que no se puede negar que!

In Sunday’s other matches, Independiente drew 1-1 with Chacarita Juniors while Newell’s Old Boys defeated Estudiantes de La Plata 2-1.

Even the presence of newly-crowned US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro - a noted member of the Los Xeneizes family didn’t bring Boca Juniors the luck they needed yesterday.

Cristian Chavez scored the decisive 90th-minute winner for Godoy Cruz as they defeated Boca Juniors 3-2 at the Bombonera stadium. Talk about a last minute comeback… Boca can’t afford to doze off if they want their points! Anyway, Matias Jara and Federico Higuain (Gonzalo Higuain’s older brother) scored in the sixth and 77th minutes for Godoy, while Sebastian Battaglia and Gary Medel netted in for the home side. Medel was sent off in the 76th. Maybe he wanted del Potro’s autograph….

Also… this just in! Coach Alfio Basile handed in his resignation to Boca’s manager, Carlos Bianchi immediately after the defeat. The journos at Ole tracked him down at his hotel room and Basile seemed exasperated about the squad in general. “I do not know how to motivate them, ” he said. Oooh, scandal!

  • Boca’s New Coach Says : “I Missed You”

Alfio Basile is Boca Junior’s reinstated man and while he reminds us of Ursula, he has vowed to restore the club to its former glory! Ursula walked into the club’s conference room yesterday and declared to the press : “I am delighted. I’ve missed you.”

How ironic for a man who has coached more than twenty teams throughout his managerial career. He has worked at almost every Argentinean club including San Lorenzo, America, Colón de Santa Fe and Huracán before a two-year stint at Boca in 2006. So obviously, experience is on his side.

“I have (collected) many jerseys from the all my years coaching. That’s something, right? I’ve spent all my life in the dressing room (and I have) black, white, yellow, jerseys … Obviously, each (team) is different,” he said.

“I’m obsessed about winning all the South American cups, the local tournaments and more cups to come. I learned a little more English and French when I was away from Boca.”
