Happy And Sad Moments In Futbol…

The city of Alcorcón celebrated their shock victory over Real Madrid in style yesterday, as thousands lined the road to catch a glimpse of their heroes. Fans crowded around the team bus to welcome back their boys and we have to admit, it’s certainly a beautiful image!

It’s always sad when a death occurs in the football family. Tributes poured in from all over the world yesterday following the death of German goalkeeper, Robert Enke. It later emerged that he had been suffering from depression after the death of his 2-year-old daughter in 2006. “When he was acutely depressive, it was a difficult time. We thought we’d manage everything. We thought with love, we could do it. But you can’t,” his widow, Teresa, said.

“We had Lara, we have Leila. I always wanted to help him to get through it. Robert didn’t want it to come out because of fear. He was scared of losing Leila. Enke was also on the way to become Germany’s first-choice keeper until an intestinal infection sidelined him.“I tried to be there for him, I said that football is not everything,” she added. Bilbao Fans Show Their Love

Athletic Bilbao were handed a 4-1 thrashing at the expense of Barca last week – but their fans love them all the same. More than 8,000 of them lined the streets for a glimpse of their heroes upon their return from the Copa del Ray final. And certainly, this is the true spirit of fútbol! Supporting your team no matter what!

To get an idea of how the atmosphere was like, watch the clip below.

    Barca Arrive Home!

So while H.Potter Perez and his witchcraft amigos were in search of new wands yesterday, the real magic happened when Barca arrived at the Camp Nou carrying their Copa Del Ray trophy! Bobojan was clearly checking out a fan in the photo above. He’s 18, so everyone please chill and ignore this photo. Or maybe not.

By the way, why weren’t there any sporting streakers ready to run over the barricades to get to the players? Punch security in the balls if you have to. You know Puyol was waiting for it!

Barca Are Copa Del Ray Champs!

And it’s Celebrations Galore today for Barcelona! The Copa Del Ray winners literally crushed Bilbao 4-1 last night in front of their fans at the Mestella, thanks to splendid goals from Toure, Messi, Bobojan and Xavi. In case you didn’t catch the game, there are extensive highlights below and of course, the fotos.

Barca are now one step closer to a historic treble – a feat that no other Spanish team has achieved. And if they emerge overall European Champions and defeat ForeignChester United’s later this month, they’ll certainly make it into the history books.

“You never know how the team will respond going down so early in a final against an opponent who are so clearly up for it, but I have a fantastic and extraordinary squad and I congratulate everyone, not just a player,” said Pep after the game.

“We are very happy and I am especially pleased because the team has shown the willingness to put in the hard work needed to be successful, not just on the field but also on the training ground before and after hard games.”

    Pep Says Everyone Should Chill

Oh, how we love the laidback tipos in football! Pep Guardiola, who is in desperate need of a trim (but looks bien anyway) has declared that he is not losing sleep over tonight’s Copa Del Ray final against Athletic Bilbao.

“The tension will be on Wednesday at 2130, when we start to warm up. Now, we’re relaxed,” he said.

“I prefer to be calm, eat well, rest at home with my people and beloved ladies. And (on Wednesday), I will focus on this final with utmost intensity,” he added.

Of course, Pep highlighted the major differences between both teams, especially Barca’s impossibly tight schedules as opposed to Bilbao’s.

“They have lived three months for this game but we have not been able to. Yesterday, 18,000 people were at our training, today we only had one closed session, but that’s that,” he said.

    Messiah!

    Lionel Messi
steered Barcelona to the finals of the Copa del Ray last night after coming in the second half against Mallorca. Their opponents gave them a hard time and many players were booked during the game (Alves and Goldilocks Puyol weren’t spared). In addition, Martin Cacere was shown a red card which reduced Barca to ten men.

It’s the first time in 11 years that Barcelona have reached the finals of the King’s Cup on a 3-1 aggregate.

Also, Messiah has been linked to another ridiculous bid from Manchester City, who will probably get owned to their faces at the end of the season. Get the hint already and give up!

    Copa del Barca

    bojan messi

Ah yes, it was the mighty Bojan who netted in two goals for Barcelona in last night’s Copa del Ray match-up against Espanyol. Remember how the Periquitos were saying they wanted to beat Barca last week? Someone needs to tell them Barca are on a different planet!

The fans were worried but Barca overcame their opponents by a 3-2 scoreline, sailing into the sem-final stages of the tournament.

“It is important for me to make the most of every chance the boss gives me,” said BoBojan. “I am only 18, but I am at a great club, and it’s an amazing situation I’m in right now and I have to feel proud to be here.”

Si, it’s BoBojan on the right but the honours go to Messi for his hat-trick against Atletico Madrid in last night’s Copa del Ray showdown. Of course, both teams chose to rest several key players. For Atletico, Kun Aguero was ruled out with pharyngitis and was a significant omission from the squad. However, his suegro (father-in-law), Maradona, was present in the stands watching and smiling.. almost eerily at Messi’s goal celebrations.

Reports suggested that Barcelona already held a one-goal advantage in the first leg and seemed to be playing very comfortably in the hostile cauldron of the Calderón. Messi’s first goal was set up by Daniel Alves and this was followed by an unfortunate penalty which he duly converted.. of course. In the 80th minute, Messi dribbled past Coupet to claim his hat-trick.

    picture of the day

Real Madrid, who were eliminated by third-division Real Union in last night’s Copa del Ray match, clearly got a little excited too early into the game.
