Offbeat: French Press Outcry Over ‘Giroud Generation’, Maradona Marries 23-Year-Old & World Cup Music Video

It’s time for Offbeat Wednesday, your weekly gossip special! This week, Olivier Giroud’s scandal with a model hits French society, J-LO and Pitbull shoot the official World Cup music video, Maradona gets engaged and David de Gea’s girlfriend billed as the next Beyonce.

Over the weekend, Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud was caught in a mighty scandal after embarrassing photos of him were leaked to the British press.

Details of his tryst with model, Celia Kay, 26, at a hotel in Canary Wharf, London, on February 2 was published all over The Sun and it seems that the French press are up in arms about it.

Le Point compared it to the Benzema and Ribery prostitution scandal, referring to the episode as “Olivier Giroud and the lofty generation” and added that the French striker was living a careless life as a footballer – like his counterparts – with no qualms about leading a double life.

“This is an episode that revives the old debate about the exemplary footballer , the top athlete and those who exercise public art. Footballers are dirty kids. They betray their country when they do not sing the anthem. They mock the flag when they lose a game. They know the song : “Money corrupts , money rots the consciences of men.” – Le Point (French press)

After Giroud himself issued an apology saying that he would now have to “fight for my family and for my club, for their forgiveness,” Arsene Wenger also confirmed that Giroud would be slapped with a punishment for breaking the rules in the team hotel.

However, he steered away from moral judgement of the incident, adding that :”It’s an internal problem and I do not comment publicly because I respect his privacy.”

Meanwhile, Celia Kay, the model in question has threatened to sue any publication or person that labels her an ‘escort’.

“I am not, have never been and will never be an escort. Go ahead and say it, but anyone who does will be accountable to my lawyers,” she wrote on Twitter.

The king and queen of departmental store “ear worm” music, J Lo and Pitbull, have been busy shooting the music video for the official FIFA World Cup anthem.

Brazilian popstar, Claudia Leitte, also features in the video for the Brazil 2014 theme, “We Are One (Ole Ola)“.

And in true fashion, they invited carnaval dancers to be part of the spectacle, and covered themselves in flags of all 32 participating countries.

Get ready for possibly another awesome World Cup song since Shakira’s Waka Waka and Ricky Martin’s Cup of Life, because the Latinas do it best!

Maradona married his 23-year-old lover, Oliva Rocio, in Rome last Friday in an elaborate ceremony held at a luxury hotel in the city.

In a video posted on the website napolimagazine.com,  friends and relatives of the former football great were seen celebrating the occasion with him in a dining room.

The video above shows Maradona (in a white shirt) standing on a chair while singing the song “Perdere l’amore” as Rocio danced next to him.

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old has denied that his ex-girlfriend, Veronica Ojeda, and former partner of nine years, is expecting his sixth child.

This follows reports that Ojeda is expecting his second child and went to visit him in Dubai to make the announcement.

Here’s a clip you don’t get to see everyday – David de Gea’s pop star girlfriend, Edurne, rallying up women to imitate Beyonce on stage!

The singer and music teacher (seen in the shiny gold dress), has been dating the Man United goalkeeper since his days at Atletico Madrid.

A relatively famous singer in Spain, she has released five musical albums and one English single called ‘Pretty Boy’.
