Is 2020 shaping up to be Arsenal’s Year?

It looks like 2020 is shaping up to be a pretty cool year for the Gunners, as they lifted their second trophy within a month, the Community Shield, last night. Traditionally the curtain raiser for the English domestic season, it adds to just another odd addition to the Covid-stricken football calendar.

Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Cedric Soares and David Luiz all scored for the Gunners, before Aubameyang finished the job on penalties, after beating Liverpool 5-4. The two sides had earlier played out a 1-1 draw at Wembley.

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster failed to convert from the penalty spot, and Klopp was insistent in post-match interviews that the miss won’t damage the 20-year-old, who looks set for his first season with Liverpool’s senior squad after playing on loan for Swansea.

“This will not harm Rhian,” said Klopp. “If anyone is to blame, it is me. I wanted him in the position because he is a real finisher and confident. Today, not. That happens in life and in football.

“We all have to learn and prove we can deal with defeats. If he would have scored and someone else missed, it is the same theme. There are bigger reasons than that. Missing it like this is possible. I have never seen him miss one but it happens.”
