Premiership : Ex Man United Boss Ron Atkinson Says No Such Thing As ‘Transitional Period’ For Moyes At Man United

It has been quite an interesting Premiership weekend, especially after Man United slipped to an unbelievable 0-1 loss in the hands of Newcastle United. The words ‘transitional period’ and ‘deja vu’ were severely overused at the weekend, as were ‘crisis’ and celebratory cheers from Anfield lovers.

Anyway, United boss David Moyes came out to say last night that the club is now going through a ‘transitional’ period with a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. His statements have already been slammed by his predecessor, Ron Atkinson. Ouuuuch!

‘I don’t think United can have a transitional period. You don’t hear of Barcelona or Real Madrid having transitional periods. What David probably means is that there has to be an evolution. They need two or three new players. They are not good enough in certain areas. It might take a little bit longer than he thought for those types of players to come in but I don’t think you can have a transitional period at Manchester United.’ – Ron Atkinson, former Man United coach.

Atkinson has a valid point to his argument – the term ‘transition period’ is a sad excuse for a club like Manchester United.

Moyes, in retrospect, had the misfortune of inheriting a side that had benefited from the legacy of Sir Alex Ferguson, and had been consistent in winning trophies for their fans. So of course, it all looks like a bit of a mess at the moment and the losses at home were always going to be a little alarming.

With that said, a transitional coffee with a view to purchase players in the transfer window might just work!

Meanwhile, Arsenal continued their solid run at the top of the table with a 1-1 draw against Everton, a side that has also impressed in recent weeks.

“The performance – I couldn’t be happier. The only bit of criticism is you need to take your chances, in the final third we were not ruthless enough. But I am really, really pleased. The character is really strong,” said Roberto Martinez, Everton’s boss.

Arsenal are now top of the table with 35 points from 15 games, 13 points adrift from ninth place Man United.
