Premiership: Villas-Boas Says He Ain’t A Quitter After Crushing Defeat To Liverpool, The Mertesacker-Ozil Diaries

    LIVERPOOL14S

It was an early Christmas gift for Liverpool fans yesterday after a 5-0 win over Tottenham. One thing’s for sure – and that’s the fact that their Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Leiva mastered a new ‘crowdsurfing‘ move as part of the goal celebrations. Perhaps this was part of his elaborate plan to get Luiz Felipe Scolari to sit up and take notice!

Tottenham have only won one of their last six home league games, and were beaten 6-0 by Manchester City last month. Things aren’t looking so fine and dandy for them at the moment, but maybe they just need a good old Christmas party to help them turn the results around.

And while Andres-Villas Boas’s future is under scrutiny once again, ‘el jefe’ insists that he will not be throwing in the towel anytime soon. Edit [11:34GMT] : The club announced via their official Twitter account that Villas-Boas has been sacked. “We can announce agreement has been reached with Head Coach, Andre Villas-Boas for the termination of his services”.

“That decision is not mine. I won’t resign and I’m not a quitter. The only thing I can do is work hard with the players to try and get the results that we all want.
“All of us had high expectations for this season, we still have them. Again I repeat that we are not far off, but the distance is increasing for those Champions League spots. And because of the expressive result it makes it even more difficult for us to bounce back.” – Andres Villas Boas

The verdict on Jack Wilshere’s ‘improper conduct’ will be revealed by the Football Association today, after he raised a finger to Manchester City fans during Arsenal’s 6-3 defeat on Saturday.

Wilshere, who was clearly frustrated by the proceedings of the afternoon, made the gesture in the 67th minute and may face a one-match ban if he is found guilty. Add the smoking incident and quotes such as “People forget that I am only 21,” and you’ve got yourself a Wilshere special!

Meanwhile, cameras captured Arsenal captain Mertesacker running over and shouting at his German national team-mate, Mesut Ozil, who chose not to applaud and thank the travelling Gunners support after the full-time whistle. We love Ozil, but dudeeeee, that was rude!
