Offbeat: Real Madrid’s Christmas Party, Arsenal’s Walcott To Be A Dad and Messi, Falcao, Ronaldo Star In Futuristic Film

It’s your Offbeat round-up on the week’s hottest off-the-pitch stories!

The Real Madrid family celebrated their annual Christmas party at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening. Yes, yes, Feliz Navidad!

Sadly, compared to last year’s festivities, there were notable absentees from the party, including players who left the club in the past few months. Mesut Ozil, Kaka, Gonzalo Higuain and Raul Albiol were all missing, for obvious reasons. The question was, of course, with Ozil enjoying the Christmas lights at Bond Street, who else was going to make a ‘Bromance‘ Christmas toast with Sami Khedira?! Una tragedia!

The club’s basketball and football squad players and members of staff all came together for a (potentially) awkward catch up, where President Florentino Perez was sure to make everyone feel at home. Enjoy the photos.

A new stylistic ‘Football Saves the World’ short film for Samsung featuring Messi, Oscar, Ronaldo, Rooney, Falcao and almost every elite football star imaginable has been released. The film’s premise – that aliens would be coming to destroy the earth and only football can save it – is a little far-fetched, but who cares if it blows everybody’s mind? Bring the aliens on!

The film is an interesting inter mesh of ‘Rocky’, ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘War of the Worlds’, there was a little bit of fear that they would not be able to pull it off without being written off as cheesy.

Granted, there were some cringe-worthy acting moments, but in all it was pretty hilarious. It gets better when El Shaarawy spins around in his chair, and mutters ‘Pronto’ in a 21st century ‘Godfather’ moment. Obviously, he pleaded with the directors for that part!

Congratulations to Arsenal striker Theo Walcott and his wife, Melanie Slade, who are expecting their first child!

After getting married over the summer in Castello di Vincigliata, near Florence in Italy, the couple announced the good news this week.

However, his child is due next June, around the time he will be expected with the England squad in Brazil for the World Cup. It’s going to be a World Cup baby!

We are both very excited at such happy news just a few months after getting married. We are really looking forward to becoming parents,” he said.

The couple tied the knot following nine years of dating after meeting at a shopping centre in Southampton, when he was playing for the squad’s youth team.

One thing’s for sure, though, and that’s the fact the fact that Mel and Theo are going to have a gorgeous ‘Mulato’ baby!

Now you know why Barcelona’s zany goalkeeper, Jose Pinto chooses to braid his hair up on match and training days – it’s a lot easier to manage!

The 38-year-old showed off his fabulous unbraided hair in its au naturel state on Twitter over the week. See ladies, we’re not the only ones dealing with frizz! Joking though – the lad desperately needs a hair mask or access to Neymar’s hair cabinet, pronto.
