Offbeat: Wayne Rooney Gets Into Lunar New Year Spirit, Bayern Munich WAGS Throw Costume Party

With Chinese New Year round the corner, Man United striker Wayne Rooneyis keen to get into the festive spirit.

The 29-year-old was spotted at popular Manchester restaurant, Wing’s, shooting a promotional campaign for the holiday.

The striker posed with a dragon mascot in the dining area of the restaurant and posted up the candid photo on his Facebook account.

The Chinese restaurant is a frequent haunt among celebrities and footballers in the city, and was the venue where Falcao officially signed on to join the club on a one-year deal last summer.

Rooney also held his birthday celebrations there last October, dining out with his family and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The owner of Wing’s himself is known to be a huge Man United fan.

“Had a good day filming yesterday at my friend Wing’s restaurant and learning about Chinese New Year,” wrote the striker.

Manchester United find themselves currently fourth in the Premier League table with 44 points, following a disappointing 1-1 draw with eighth-placed West Ham at The Boleyn Ground.

Rooney has found himself at the centre of some tactical controversy recently after critics questioned United manager Louis van Gaal’s decision to deploy the player, traditionally viewed as a striker, in the midfield role.

A whole host of first-team Bayern Munich players attended a Western-themed costume party earlier this week after defeating Stuttgart to win their first game of 2015.

Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic, who is the girlfriend of Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, organised the party at the Cafe Reitschule in Munich.

Ivanovic 27, was first seen with Schweinsteiger in New York last September, after his high-profile breakup from his girlfriend of nine years, Sarah Brandner.

The defender was spotted visiting her during training at her tennis tournaments in Brisbane, sparking rumours that he was no longer with Brandner.

Brandner, a popular German model, was dating Schweinsteiger for a large part of his career, and was a frequent fixture at the World Cup and European Championships.

However, the player himself appeared to have confirmed the rumours earlier this year.

At a Bayern Munich training camp in Dubai last month, Schwensteiger had visibly cancelled Sarah’s name out on his boots with a black marker pen (see photo above).

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze were the players among attendance at Ivanovic’s party.

Gotze was seen with lingerie model girlfriend Ann-Kathrin Brommel, who dressed up as Pocahontas.

Lewandowski and Gotze had earlier played the full 90 minutes as Bayern Munich picked up their first victory since the winter break at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Bayern now top the table by eight points and aim to retain their German title.
