In Germany, the Women’s Bundesliga finally restarted after a two-month winter break and Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich wasted no time in reaffirming their title ambitions.
Wolfsburg could scarcely have wished for a better return from the winter break after recording a 5-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen to preserve their lead in the Bundesliga standings. To top it off, they were also named “Team of the Year 2014” in a cool ceremony by the mayor of the city and everybody received flowers!
A double from Martina Muller and goals from Lena Goessling, Alexandra Popp and Yuki Ogimi guided VfL to their 12th win of the current campaign this week. Nevertheless, Bayern Munich continue to snap at the leaders’ heels, with coach Thomas Worle’s side edging Hoffenheim 2-1 thanks to strikes from Eunice Beckmann and Katherine Stengel.
Top three on table: Wolfsburg (38 points), Bayern Munich (36), Frankfurt (31)
