It was a great return for one of our favourite prospects, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, who missed five months of action with Arsenal after a nasty knee injury last year. The Ox netted two goals against Crystal Palace in their 2-0 win last night, which clearly jolted Roy Hodgson out of his couch, and straight into his glittery green “Brazil 2014” notebook. Surely, this guy is going to the World Cup, now?!!
Although it’s a well-known fact that many players start out with a preferred position, they are often ‘shifted around’ by the coach, and are forced to adapt accordingly. While they are occasionally played out of position, many stick through to maintain a starting spot in the team.
The best players are the “malleable” ones, and clearly, Arsene Wenger thinks that of 20-year-old Chamberlain
“I’ve always believed that he can play wide and central. I’ve said many times that his future will be central and he has proven me right today by scoring the goals and through the quality of his performance. It took him a quite a while to get back because he was injured against Aston Villa on that famous day. Overall I’m pleased that he’s back to full fitness. You could see that, at some time near the end, that he’s still a bit short.” – Arsene Wenger
