Relevent and Catalyst Media Group (CMG) announced today that the International Champions Cup will return to Singapore with three of Europe’s top clubs in a global
tournament.
Arsenal, Atlético de Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain who do not often encounter each other in Europe, will take delight in the match-ups in front of their Asian fans at the National Stadium on 26 July, 28 July and 30 July.
In its sixth installment, the 2018 International Champions Cup takes on a new global format, featuring the largest number of clubs, matches and venues to date. This year’s chase for the Cup features 18 of the best clubs in the world playing 27 matches across the United States, Europe and Singapore. Whereas past tournaments recognized a winner within each participating continent, this year’s competitive structure will take on a more cohesive format, reigning one overall global champion.
Three of the club’s representatives were at the launch including Robert Pires (Arsenal), José Luis Caminero (Atlético de Madrid) and Maxwell Scherrer (PSG).
The only question we have now, of course, is that will Arsene Wenger still be there?
“Normally during the pre-season there’s always a lot of activations, and we join the fans that we have all over the world. This is a great opportunity for us to be close to our fans – we know that there are a lot of French people living in Singapore too, so to be close to them is very important. We’re delighted to come, and we’re going to train really hard and enjoy the local community and everybody that is here. For us, this is of course a very special year with the World Cup. We don’t know how far the guys will go, and similar to Arsenal and Atleti, we have a lot of international players who serve on their national teams, but it’s very important for us to to bring the squad here. The pre-season is very important. We may be here to be close to the fans and to the partners, but once you’re on the field, everybody wants to win and to compete and see which level we can reach for the new season.” - Maxwell, Paris Saint-Germain
