The French women’s league has been touted as one to watch for the future, but it’s progressiveness has been hampered by over dominance of Lyon, who are also seven-time defending champions.
Finally, this week, Lyon suffered their first league defeat in four years after 87 games in the hands of Paris-Saint Germain’s women’s team. It was a stunning 1-0 away victory, which underlined PSG’s ambition to change the face of French women’s football.
Ironically, it was Lyon’s former star, Laura Georges, who scored the winner before half-time. Well done, PSG ladies!
Speaking of upsets, Women’s La Liga leaders also Barcelona suffered a small ‘hiccup’ in their title defence, after a 2-2 draw against mid-table Real Sociedad.
